35 trek up Mt Kinabalu as climbing activities resume

May 10, 2021

Some 35 peoples started their ascent of Mount Kinabalu today as climbing activities, which were ordered stopped in January due to the movement control order (MCO), resume.

Kinabalu Park manager Yassin Miki said there were 35 climbers and 10 mountain guides this morning.

“We are expecting visitors to the park soon,” he said, adding that only 100 people are allowed to make the climb at any one time, as per health guidelines.

Among the standard operating procedures is for climbers to first test negative for Covid-19, he said.

It is learnt that hundreds of climbing enthusiasts who made bookings before the MCO are on the waiting list.
