  RESEARCH & EDUCATION DIVISION - ZOOLOGY & ENTOMOLOGY UNIT
 

Zoology and Entomolgy Units was established in 2 separating units on the year 1994. Started on August 1998, both units was combined under one research officer only.

The objective of the Zoology and Entomolgy unit formation is to collect data that relate with diversity, abundance and aspects on wild animal ecology which become the main base in consideration of managing parks areas around Sabah.

Function

  • Conduct research related to fauna in various aspects such as the diversity order, family, genus, species, morphology, and endangered species.
     
  • Manage and carry out conservation efforts / ex-situ conservation facilities for the public and researchers. For example, Tropical Gardens, Aviari, Animal Park and Deer Park, Serinsim, canopy walk, Tawau Hills Park Bird Conservation Center, Butterfly Farm, Insekterium Poring and Crocker Range Park.
     
  • Manage and develop the Zoology Museum collection and to create central database of animals for research and education.
     
  • Documenting and produce scientific writings / academic for Park Management, published "Sabah Parks Nature Journal" and other issues.
     
  • Helps in supervising and conduct joint research with researchers or research institutions in the areas of Sabah Parks.
     
  • Provide information on plants and materials to the centre of the exhibition and Park Gallery for the purpose of education and Interpretative.
