  RESEARCH & EDUCATION DIVISION - MARINE FLORA UNIT
 

Marine Research Unit was established on January 3, 1995 just four employees including one Marine Research Officer, an Assistant Park and two temporally daily paid employees. At that time, the unit is still at the office of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park operations while waiting the unit office which still currently under construction.

Starting mid-year 1999, this unit officially move into the new office until today, and starting in 2000, Squash building, which has been submitted to the Unit to be build as exhibition and education centre. Filling materials and educational exhibits at Exhibition & Education Building was completed and open to public visitors at the early 2001 till the present day.

Started on July 2006, Marine Research Unit was officially split into two separated units in the field of research, namely the Marine Research Unit (Marine & Reef Flora) and the Marine Research Unit (Fauna). Marine Research Unit (Marine & Reef Flora) headed by Mr. Nasrulhakim based at Tun Sakaran Marine Park, while the Marine Research Unit (Fauna) headed by Mr. Irwan Isnain which based at Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.

Function

  1. Conducting research related to marine flora and fauna in various aspects such as species diversity, morphology, distribution, ecology and others.
  2. Implementing conservation efforts towards turtle conservation with ex-situ.
  3. Managing and developing museum collection of marine specimens and creating central data base.
  4. Documenting the results of research through scientific literature for publication and reference.
  5. Provide materials and information on marine flora and fauna to the centre and exhibition hall park.
  6. Supervise, assist or conduct joint venture with researchers/research institutions in relate of marine flora and fauna.
  7. Manage the administrative affairs unit in connection with the affairs of the staff, stores / logistics, finance and others.
