  RESEARCH & EDUCATION DIVISION - BOTANY UNIT
 

The Botany Unit was established on the year of 1994 and it was one of the unit in Research & Education Division of Sabah Parks. This Unit concentrate into various aspect of research and education that relate to flora within the parks areas.

Function

  • Conducting research related to the flora in various aspects such as diversity of species, morphology, distribution, ecology, endangered species and so on.
     
  • Manage and carry out the efforts on conservation of plants ex-situ for public facilities and research. For example, Orchid conservation center, the Rafflesia conservation center, botanical garden of Mount Kinabalu, Fernarium, Garden Estate Primary and Ethnobotany.
     
  • Manage and develop the herbarium collections and create central database of plants for the use in research and education.
     
  • Manage and conducting research activities in culture laboratory to propogation wild orchids and other threatened plants.
     
  • Documenting and produce scientific writings / academic for the use of Park Management, published "Sabah Parks Nature Journal" and other issues.
     
  • Provides information on plants and materials for the exhibition center and Park Gallery for the purpose of education and Interpretative.
